Get home safe

Safer routes on Cedar Springs.

Walk-paths, lit streets, late-night rideshare staging, and the bars that'll let you wait inside for your ride.

Walking the Strip

Stick to well-lit blocks

Cedar Springs between Wycliff and Knight is the most active stretch. Most bars have security and patio areas that extend to the sidewalk. After 2 AM, use a rideshare — the area thins out quickly past Oak Lawn Ave.

Buddy system works

Walk with friends, especially late at night. If you’re heading home solo, let someone know. Most bars are happy to let you wait inside for your ride.

Rideshare pickup spots

The best pickup spots are the Kroger parking lot at Cedar Springs & Wycliff, or the 7-Eleven on Throckmorton. Avoid getting picked up in the middle of the block — it’s safer to walk to a well-lit corner.

Cedar Springs is a generally safe neighborhood and always has been. Still — traveling somewhere new, especially at night, is easier with a plan. Here are the routes and tips locals use.

Getting between bars on the strip

The core of Cedar Springs — Throckmorton to Douglas Avenue — is four walkable blocks. You can hit six or seven bars without ever getting in a car. Stick to Cedar Springs proper after dark; the side streets are residential and darker.

Getting back to your hotel

Uber and Lyft run fine until 3 AM. Surge pricing kicks in after last call (2 AM) — if you can walk back to Uptown or Oak Lawn, it’s usually 15 minutes along well-lit streets. Downtown is further; cab it.

Public transit

DART buses run Cedar Springs during daytime hours. Late-night service is limited. For Pride weekend, DART usually runs extended service — check dart.org for the schedule.

If something happens

911 for emergencies, always. The bars on Cedar Springs look out for each other — if you feel unsafe, step into any venue and ask for security. They’ll help.
